Lisa MacMain
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Rise and Renew Counseling, LLC, was shaped by my background in clinical social work, enriched by my work with clients, and grounded in my own lived experience. I am especially passionate about helping people make sense of their experiences, rebuild trust with themselves, and find a way forward after adversity.
With care and compassion, I work with individuals and couples and facilitate groups who have been impacted by emotional, relational, and spiritual trauma. My approach is trauma-informed and centers on safety, collaboration, and honoring each person’s pace and story. I take time to truly understand your unique experiences and how they continue to affect your mind, body, emotions, relationships, and sense of meaning.
Therapy with me is not about fixing you or rushing toward solutions. It is about creating a safe, supportive space where your experience is respected, your strengths are recognized, and your voice matters.
Together, we gently explore patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior that developed in response to what you’ve been through, while also identifying the resilience that has helped you survive. From there, we collaborate on an evidence-based, trauma-informed plan that supports healing, regulation, and meaningful, sustainable change.
"My social work foundation continues to shape my conviction that our greatest wounds—and our greatest capacity for healing—occur in relationships. My work focuses on helping clients restore safety, agency, and wholeness through a holistic, relational approach."

Credentials
CPTT
Certified Partner Trauma Therapist-Candidate (CPTT)
As a member of the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP,) I have received training that enables me to help my clients navigate the complex emotions and relational challenges that arise after discovering they have been betrayed by their partner. I provide a safe and supportive environment for partners to process their feelings, heal from the wounding, rebuild trust in themselves and to work to restore their relationship with their partner if they so choose.
Founder and Executive Director YoungMoms
Since the start in 2010 when I created and developed YoungMoms as a grad student, this amazing non-profit has equipped hundreds of pregnant and parenting young women with the support, resources and skills they need to overcome obstacles, minimize social inequities, and build a strong foundation for their families.
Seminarian
Alongside my clinical social work education, I completed two years of seminary study toward a Master of Divinity. I sought this training to better understand how belief systems, relationships, and lived experience intersect in both harm and healing. My social work foundation continues to shape my conviction that our greatest wounds—and our greatest capacity for healing—occur in relationships. My work focuses on helping clients restore safety, agency, and wholeness through a holistic, relational approach.
Gottman Method, Level 1 Trained
With couples, I apply research based, specific interventions and exercises rooted in data from extensive studies with thousands of couples in order to help improve friendship and intimacy and to teach practical skills for managing conflict. Couples are assisted in establishing shared goals, values, and creating a sense of purpose to support their hopes and dreams within the context of the relationship.
EMDR, EMDR Institute Trained
Through a structured, phased approach, I work collaboratively with clients to Identify and target memories, negative beliefs, and physical sensations linked to distress and act as a guide through the reprocessing of these memories using bilateral stimulation, which reduces their emotional intensity. Clients are then able to Integrate new, positive beliefs and perspectives which allows them to move forward with renewed resilience and a sense of empowerment.
